Am I writing about myself? I am, but I'm also writing as one of a very particular tribe - I call them/us the fabulous fish.
And I'm trying to find a way we can write together.
# Why fabulous? Look down the trail of that word's long history and you'll see why. Think of its Latin root - Fabulosus, meaning "celebrated in legend or a mythical invented story". Story-telling is central. We fabulous fish are inveterate story-tellers. We are interested in other people and things and have a need to understand them and in turn to be understood ourselves.
And the stories we tell are fabulous in another important respect. They are mysterious and we call them fabulous because even we the tellers do not understand them yet. By sharing them we hope to understand them more.
# Why fish? Fish are coldblooded creatures and live in water, an alien element for most humans. My tribe are for the most part lone travellers in an alien world. # Why write together? When fish move in shoals they provide shelter for lone individuals and the sweep of their coordinated movements create beauty for the observer..
So let us be fabulous fish and find a way to come together to write and create meaningful stories in the hope that in writing them we come to understand them and ourselves more!
